Sustainability
“Hållbarhetsklivet” (the Sustainable Step) is West Sweden’s initiative where authorities and businesses work together for a sustainable tourism. Together we create tourism that doesn’t bring unnecessary impact on the environment, and that is appreciated by both locals and visitors. Internationally, West Sweden is well known for sustainable tourism and we are proud to say that Gothenburg, a destination with both city and archipelago, has gotten various international awards for the work in this field.
Minimum unnecessary environmental impact as possible
People lived on our islands since the bronze age. Fishing, cultivating and making a living for themselves, not only in summer season, but all year. There are many traces from past times. But we are glad to see that traces from negative environmental impact are difficult to find on our islands. When we bring visitors to our beautiful archipelago, we always keep that in mind. On these islands we want to work for a long time to come, and there for we keep the environment as it is today.
We use old, sustainable, locally build boats, with small two cylinder engines that are very fuel efficient. We drive slowly and carefully. Minimal boat shame, that is… When we fish, we never catch more than we need. And after fishing we want our guests to taste their catch. Cooked very nearby.
The local initiative Divers Against Ghost Nets, help us to find our lost tools at the bottom of the sea. That avoids unnecessary suffering for seafood that found their way in to the ghost nets, and allows for the catch to find the right trap. Annelie Pompe, world champion in free-diving, and a local islander, is the ambassador for a sustainable Hönö.
Good for both locals and visitors
Bohuslän has a coast that is unique in the world and the tourism makes it possible to both live and work on the coast. Our nature and resources are exclusive and we focus on quality rather than quantity. That is why our visitors travel to us. Bohuslän will never be Gran Canaria.

More visitors when and where it’s not full
July and August are the peak months of the year, and we don’t wish to raise them further. Since many years back we work on extending the seasons as well as creating new seasons. Every year we see the result of our work. Spring season starts a bit earlier and late summer fusions with autumn. Since 2019 we are open 365 and offer boat trips in small scale also during Winter.
More jobs and jobs that makes a living
Our company is small with only two employees. That’s the reality of many other businesses in our industry. But just as a humblebee fertilizes many flowers, our business also brings work to many other companies in our field. First hand, our mission is to provide packaged experiences with boat activities, food and accommodation. Every small business in our little harbor creates reasons to visit the island and that creates jobs for us all. In this way the operations grows and there will be need for more staff and new projects.
